Tyrone Mine

The Tyrone Mine, located southwest of Silver City, is a major open-pit copper mine that has operated in the region for more than a century. The mine produces copper from mineral deposits that have been developed through large-scale mining operations. Like the Chino Mine, Tyrone is owned and operated by Freeport-McMoRan, which acquired the operation and manages it as part of its global copper portfolio. The mine remains one of the most significant copper-producing sites in New Mexico.
