New Mexico Mining Watch works to protect communities, water, land, and cultural resources from the impacts of mining. Our work includes public advocacy, regulatory engagement, legal action, and direct participation in decisions affecting communities across New Mexico.

Energy Emergency Order
Pressed the New Mexico Attorney General to join a federal lawsuit filed by 16 other states opposing the Energy Emergency Order issued by the Trump administration on inauguration day. New Mexico joined sixteen other states in filing an amended complaint in United States Western District of Washington Case No. 2:25-CV-00869 in May 2025.

Environmental Justice
Petitioned the New Mexico Attorney General, Raul Torrez, to join the “Multistate Guidance Affirming the Importance and Legality of Environmental Justice Initiatives”. New Mexico joined 13 other states in issuing guidance supporting environmental justice for communities in our state on January 16, 2026.

La Jara Mesa
Submitted public comment to New Mexico Mining and Minerals Division opposing the issuance of a uranium mining permit for Laramide Resources to develop the La Jara Mesa uranium mine on Mount Taylor, a Traditional Cultural Property on February 17, 2026.

Submitted public comment to New Mexico Mining and Minerals Division opposing the issuance of a uranium mining permit for Energy Fuels to develop the Roca Honda uranium mine on Mount Taylor, a Traditional Cultural Property on July 19, 2026.
